People who planned to do their daily fitness exercises on October 20 were stunned when they saw this. Anytime Fitness, Penarth, a gym franchise that boasted of being open 24 hours, has been closed.

The landlord left a letter on the door under a large closed sign stating that the lease was cancelled.

Managers of Anytime Fitness Penarth apologized to members for the inconvenience but cryptically said there were two sides to the story.

Now gym trainers Rae Carpenter, Kurt Andrews, Liam Hatch, Craig Wilcox and James Darlington have described the unexpected closure as a “shocking act”.

In a joint message on Instagram, the team said: “Thank you for all your kind messages of support since Friday’s shocking action and the subsequent temporary closure of the gym.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to make sure we are ready to work with you again when we receive notice.

“We understand how frustrating this is for you.

“We understand that the gym and community we have created is more than ‘just going to the gym.’

“We realize that this means that many of us will not only struggle with not being able to move our bodies as we would like, but also for those of us whose exercise plays a big part in our daily mental health care; There is an extra challenge.

“We hear you, we understand you, we are with you and we feel the same.

“Thank you for being with us at such an early stage of this truly unfortunate situation.

“We will keep you informed as soon as we learn more.”

Anytime Fitness on Windsor Road was forced to close its doors on October 20 in what has been described as a surprising closure.

On the door of the gym is a letter from Project Three Developments stating that the landlord has “re-entered” the property and has been “penalized” on the lease as a result.

Anytime Fitness wrote on Instagram: “Dear members, please accept our deepest apologies for this unfortunate and surprising temporary closure of our beloved gym.

“Rest assured that we are working tirelessly to resolve this situation.

“Unfortunately, for legal reasons we cannot go into detail about what happened, but I can assure you there is another side to this story.

“Our gym is closed due to reasons beyond our control.”

On the door of the gym are two A4 papers with ‘closed’ written in large bold letters and a letter from Project Three Developments which reads: “Landlord has re-entered the property pursuant to the landlord’s authority. 40% of the rent.”

“The right to rent was forfeited and the property was secured.

“Attempting to enter the property without the landlord’s permission may be a criminal offence.”

We have contacted both Anytime Fitness and Project Three Development and will give you an update on the situation as soon as we receive it.
