Rumor has emerged in recent days: there would be discussions between the Canadiens and the Capitals regarding Quebec forward Anthony Mantha.
The CH player mentioned in these discussions will be the experienced Joel Armia. Therefore, it will be a matter of replacing players in difficult situations and burdened with cumbersome contracts. Armia will receive $3.4 million annually through the end of next season, while the Caps player is currently in the final year of a contract that pays him $5.7 million per season.
According to columnist Tony Marinaro, there is no question that CH needs to complete this transaction if there is to be any real interest from the Capitals.
“Anthony Mantha, I always loved the “package” (all his qualities), 1.80 and 1.80, strong and puck, shoots and can go through the wall, scoring 50 goals twice. QMJHL,” he explained to “JiC” on Thursday.
“That would be a bad contract trade of a struggling guy for a struggling guy,” he added. On the other hand, if there is time to sign Anthony Mantha, who is in the final year of his contract, the timing has never been better.
