The long-awaited fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at the upcoming UFC 295 will not take place. It was canceled due to injury to the American fighter. An interim championship fight was arranged.
Big blow to UFC 295. The organization’s boss, Dana White, announced on November 11 in New York that Jon Jones was injured and his long-awaited fight against Stipe Miocic in the heavyweight category was canceled. This reshuffles the cards and the organization of this event.
Prochazka-Pereira in the main event
The main fight will be the light heavyweight fight between Czech Jiri Prochazka and Brazilian Alex Pereira. In the heavyweight category, Russian Sergei Pavlovich and British Tom Aspinall will fight for the interim championship.
Dana White explained on
“He will need surgery and will be out of action for eight months. The main event of UFC 295 will now be played between Prochazka and Pereira. The co-main event will now be played between Pavlovich and Aspinall for the interim heavyweight championship.”
Dana White even posted video of the moment Jones was injured. The latter made his grand return to the octagon after a three-year absence by defeating Frenchman Cyril Gane in Las Vegas on March 5. This feat, achieved in less than two minutes on the guillotine, earned him the world heavyweight belt after dominating the light heavyweights for a decade.
Jones, considered the greatest MMA fighter of all time, was preparing to face Miocic, considered the greatest heavyweight in history.
