Leave aside HIT and pilates, let’s make room for comfortable and zen exercise; because it’s a ‘comfortable yet effective method of exercise’ suitable for all ages and abilities.
Fitness trends are constantly changing, but once you find the best app to suit your abilities and preferences, you won’t look back. Some may benefit from the endorphins released during long-distance running, some may want an adrenaline boost from cold water therapy, and some may prefer the slow pace of pilates that tightens the whole body.
But there’s a new fitness craze taking the TikTok world by storm, kicking off the #cozycardio or #cosycardio trend. Cozy Cardio has been a huge hit on the social media platform, racking up 7.5 million views so far and counting. So what is casual cardio?
Relaxed cardio is described by the experts at Lift Vault as a “relaxed yet effective method of exercise” and a form centered around “comfort and tranquility” that we can definitely get involved with.
Casual cardio is much more than walking on an indoor treadmill, low-intensity exercise classes, or working out from home. Experts claim that casual cardio is “exercising in a relaxing environment in the comfort of your own home”; This includes setting the mood with dim lighting, candles, even exercising in your pajamas, in front of the TV, watching a movie, or whatever setting you feel most comfortable in.

On some TikTok accounts, fitness enthusiasts have followed this ethos to complete weight training or cardio workouts as it doesn’t have to be just cardiovascular exercises, despite the trending hashtag. Speaking about the fitness trend, Lift Vault founder Kyle Risley said: “This approach to exercise has a number of benefits for those who are not overly confident or physically motivated to go to the gym, especially during the colder months.
“This is a great solution, especially for those who work in the office and want to come home and relax and unwind while burning calories. The results of relaxed cardio are no different than working out in the gym or fitness studio, and in fact, it’s as if you were exercising while watching a movie.” It can help increase your stamina and endurance as if you were exercising for more hours in one session.
Kyle added: “A 20-30 minute walk at four miles per hour will burn approximately 100-150 calories, depending on a person’s weight. A 60-minute walk will burn more than 300 calories. Walking longer on the treadmill is also a form of cardiovascular endurance. Research supports that a significant amount of cardiovascular endurance can support a longer lifespan while improving sleep quality and fighting off disease.
“Keeping your body constantly active is extremely important; besides the obvious things like weight loss, better sleep and heart health, cardio exercises can help reduce stress and anxiety levels as they release endorphins that naturally lift your mood and improve overall mental health. ”
Some TikTok users even stated that they have a more positive outlook on exercise than ever before. An influencer who goes by the name Hope_Zuckerbrow shared a clip in which he wrote: “Reminder: Exercise does not have to be done in a cold and sterile environment. It can be sensory friendly and fun. Relaxed cardio has improved my relationship with exercise and brought joy back to movement.”
Inspired by Hope, a separate TikTok user grabbed her plush blanket and weights and tuned in to their favorite podcast for an at-home workout, saying, “I’m happy to do something, it’s better than doing nothing.”
