“GPC Infrastructure, which built the bridge, was blacklisted by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation for generating fake invoices worth Rs 300 million,” claimed Amit Chavda, leader of the Congress legislative party. “People of Gujarat pay taxes to get quality infrastructure and services, but instead taxpayers’ money is being grabbed by corrupt officials and politicians.”

Two people lost their lives when a section of an under-construction railway overbridge collapsed in Palanpur town in Banaskantha district. The incident occurred when six recently installed concrete beams collapsed, trapping at least two more people. There is no confirmation yet on how many people are trapped as authorities conduct a search and rescue operation. The contract for the construction of the bridge was awarded to GPC Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, a company based in Palanpur. The collapsed beams had been placed on the columns a week ago but had not yet been fixed.
