From 27 to 29 October, the Occitanie pankration championship will be held at the En-Pêtre gym in Gimont. Boxing Shaolin’s Gimont association structure has been carefully preparing this event behind the scenes for several months.
This competition, in which fighters from all over the region and beyond, will participate, is organized in cooperation with the Occitanie League (LOKMDA), which consists of kickboxing, muay-thai and related disciplines, and under the auspices of FFKMDA. It was also thanks to the support of the Gimont town hall, the Gers district council and the traders in the Gimont commune that the project was actually able to be implemented and see the light of day.
A complete combat sport
This discipline, which has its origins in Ancient Greece, has managed to modernize by becoming a complete combat sport today, thus making it possible to take place on the ground (wrestling) as well as standing (boxing).
Therefore, this fighting style can take place entirely standing or turn into ground combat from the first seconds, depending on the technique or strategy adopted by the fighters.
Arbitration of the discipline allows not to give preference to any one style at the tactical level; Only the athlete who has mastered all techniques (foot punches, painful holds, throws, ground fighting, submission techniques, space and fight zone mastery) is allowed to dominate. Ability to win with equal physical skills between two pankratiasts.
Also for the first time in France and at a regional championship, full contact fights (KO authorized) will take place in an MMA cage, which promises a great show. Especially since future champions of Occitanie will qualify for the French championship.
