Nairobi City Stars winger Pius Omachi is on the verge of making a full return to the team after being sidelined for months.
Omachi has been undergoing rehabilitation since March following an injury that ended the 2022-23 FKF Premier League season.
Brian Otieno, the team’s physiotherapist, said Omachi is now ready.
“All he needs now is match fitness. Otherwise he has a clean bill of health. It has been a journey since his injury in March. Slowly, he has reached a point where he will start competing for a place in the team in competitive games,” Otieno said.
Head coach Nicholas Muyoti added: “We have assessed him and he is now on the verge of returning to the team. He has participated in our training sessions. We have also tested him in friendly matches. He has played 45 minutes recently and that shows he is getting there. Now it is just a matter of time.”
Omachi hopes to feature in Kenyan Premier League matches this calendar year.
“It was a journey but eventually I returned to full training. I fill the minutes from one friendly match to the next. “The coach told me that I was just two matches away from returning to the KPL,” he said.
“It is my desire to get there as soon as possible. I hope it will be before the end of the year.”
Omachi made his Kenyan Premier League debut against Gor Mahia at the Moi Stadium in Kasarani on 4 February, coming on as a second-half substitute. This is his only appearance so far.
