A sensible evening in the Champions League. The favorites, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Napoli and Inter, won after controlled matches. The only minor surprise came from Benfica, where the Lisbon team lost to Real Sociedad (0-1).
Coman gives Bayern a perfect start
If Bayern Munich got their third win (1-3) in as many matches at Galatasaray’s home ground, they owe this especially to the French forward. Kingsley Coman, who was perfectly isolated on the right side of the field by Leroy Sané and was eventually named man of the match, scored the goal with a magnificent cross-kick in the 8th minute, leaving Fernando Muslera no chance.
The Turks equalized thanks to a penalty shot by former Parisian Mauro Icardi, but the winner was the Bavarian. Harry Kane struck first in the 73rd minute, before Jamal Musiala struck the last six minutes later. The people of Istanbul could not recover. However, they are in second place with four points, just ahead of Manchester United, who won Copenhagen with Harry Maguire’s goal (1-0).
Arsenal take back the lead
Arsenal, who had been defeated in Lens on the previous day of the Champions League on October 3, logically took the lead in Group B by defeating Sevilla FC (1-2). Just before and after the first half, London’s two scorers were Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. Nemanja Gudelj’s drop in the score was not enough for Sevillian to get points at home.
This win, combined with Lens’ draw against PSV Eindhoven (1-1), placed Mikel Arteta’s team in first place in their group with six points, one point ahead of Lensois. Sevilla and PSV remained with two points. The first space is created.
Real Madrid continues its perfect performance, Rudi Garcia is breathing
In group C, logic was followed. Real Madrid, who went to Braga, did not hesitate to win and got its third consecutive victory (1-2). As always, Jude Bellingham joined in the fun by scoring the second goal. Vinicius Junior, released from the left wing, was one of the man of the match. The Brazilian player made two assists.
This new victory allowed the Madridists to take the lead halfway through the group stage. Napoli, which was defeated by Merengues in the previous match, continues on its way. A small goal from Giacomo Raspadori at Union Berlin was enough to please Rudi Garcia’s men (0-1), who are currently in second place. For Berliners, the issue gets complicated. With zero points it is unlikely they can hope to make it to the last 16 of the Champions League.
Inter Milan gives itself some fresh air
The match between Milanese and Salzburg was very important because the winner could make a difference in the Group D standings. It was Benjamin Pavard’s teammates who did the right thing by winning at home (2-1). Alexis Sanchez scored the first goal in the 19th minute, while Israeli Oscar Gloukh found the opening to equalize. However, the match lasted only a few minutes as Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s penalty allowed Interists to regain the advantage.
Benjamin Pavard, who was on the right of the triple defense along with Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni, played the entire match. A week after his excellent performance for the Blues against Scotland, the former Lille man shined again, scoring twice in the first half. This shows that the Frenchman has the trust of his coach Simone Inzaghi and it has repaid him well. Marcus Thuram, who was on the bench at the beginning of the match, entered the game instead of Alexis Sanchez in the 65th minute.
