Borussia Dortmund have two new injury concerns following their 1-0 win over Newcastle United; Emre Can and Julian Brandt will potentially be sidelined.
The black-whites continued their winning streak on Wednesday evening by beating Newcastle United 1-0. Emre Can, who started the match in defensive midfield for Borussia Dortmund, had to leave the game with a very painful injury between his knee and thigh.
Although Can tried to avoid injury at first, he was replaced by Salih Özcan in the 43rd minute. Borussia Dortmund has not yet made a definitive diagnosis, but Edin Terzic said after the match that the club captain was in great pain as he left the game.
Julian Brandt was forced to miss Borussia Dortmund’s match against Newcastle United due to a hip injury he suffered in Friday’s match against Werder Bremen. Marcel Sabitzer was in the starting 11 in his absence.
It is not yet clear whether Emre Can and Julian Brandt will play in Borussia Dortmund’s away game against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Brandt has been in excellent form, especially recently, while Can also showed his quality against Newcastle before starting the game.
Julian Ryerson was also not included in Borussia Dortmund’s squad against Newcastle United as he missed the match due to illness. However, it is hoped he can return to the squad for Sunday’s trip to Frankfurt.
