Axercise, part of TimberJacks, is the first dedicated axe-swinging fitness gym in the UK to offer customers the opportunity to get fit by chopping logs in a safe environment.
The classes are an ideal way to improve physical and mental health, with sessions open to both beginners and the more experienced.

Jack Baxter, graphics and marketing developer at TimberJacks, said: “A lot of people try going to the gym and for some it really works, but others can feel stuck in the same rut.
“Axercise is not designed to replace the gym, but it is a great way to encourage people to stay fit and have fun while exercising.
“It’s a great atmosphere and really helps you clear your mind and take some of the anger out if necessary which will reduce anti-social behaviour. “It has so many benefits.”

The sessions are also designed to introduce people to fitness by removing barriers that may prevent them from going to the gym.
The venue offers an intensive 6-week boot camp or one-on-one program with personal trainer Matt McClure for both individuals and groups.
Mr Baxter added: “We’ve already had a lot of requests and customers who have tried it have all loved it.
“Whether guests are beginners or bodybuilders, we encourage everyone to participate and set their own goals.”

Staff also started a warm-up routine with a new resistance band recently installed. The band mimics the motion of swinging the axis to improve technique and reduce injuries.
The venue on Green Street is open every weekday from 6 am to 10 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 am to 8 pm, and price lists are available on the website.
Walk-ins are welcome but the team recommends booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
