TOKYO — Powerful people of the world, unite! A Tokyo-based fitness company is looking for muscular men and women to remove trash from the streets of Shibuya the morning after Halloween.
Leverage Inc., headquartered in Tokyo’s Shibuya District, has one requirement for volunteers who want to participate in cleaning up the area around JR Shibuya Station: big muscles.
The company reportedly wanted a prominent display of muscular bulk so viewers would get the message that it’s not okay to throw litter on the street. However, those who want to participate are free to evaluate for themselves whether they have the necessary equipment. Even though the weather is getting colder, they are asked to wear clothes that will show off their ripped bodies. Sleeveless shirts can be slow for those who need them.
Littering on the streets and rowdy crowds have become a social problem in Shibuya, where large numbers of people gather each year ahead of Halloween. A desire to promote social etiquette and beautify the streets led Leverage to organize the event last year. About 50 people, mostly office workers, attended before the shift began. The event has also reportedly become a way for participants to get to know each other and share fitness knowledge, while also encouraging each other to become even more motivated.
The group will meet for approximately an hour on November 1, starting at 6:30 a.m. Those who want to participate can register at: company website (Japanese only) By the end of October.
