Swiss designer Kevin Germanier proves that sustainable fashion can be cheerful, fun and festive at the fashion show of his spring summer 2024 collection.
Interviewed by FashionUnited after his fashion show held in the Bir-Hakeim parking lot (quai de Grenelle) during Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Kevin Germanier assures us: “Everything is upcycled. The tulle and linings come from Nona Source (the fabric stock platform created by LVMH), where I worked for the first time. »
“Each straw (Hello Kitty, seashells, etc.) is sourced from vintage stock. The sequin prints are waste pieces that London designer Richard Quinn worked with. The jersey prints are made from recycled plastics from House of U (Amsterdam). The denim fabric was removed from my ex’s clothes, and the sequins attached to the canvas were made by Gustavo Silvestre, a Brazilian crochet genius who worked socially with prisoners in Rio.
“Draw me a monster”: a journey into the heart of nature’s most mysterious and dangerous inhabitants
For “Les Venimeuses,” the name of his spring-summer 2024 collection, Kevin Germanier imagined characters directly from a shamanic universe to “reveal the beauty of nature.” “His show is a tribute to their charm with its mesmerizing mix of textures and colours. In the statement, it was stated that he gave voice and beauty to the despised and misunderstood creatures of the universe.
Its success began with clothing and accessories made from Lido’s (Maison RD) feather stocks. After joining FHCM’s Sphere incubator, Kevin Germanier is today represented by the multi-brand showroom Çözümi (11 rue Dupetit Thouars Paris 3rd). It is sold in major stores such as Galeries Lafayette, Selfridges and on the MatchesFashion platform.
“When you have a brand, you have to play on two fronts: great sauerkraut for the press and a great product to sell, because that’s what keeps the business alive,” notes Kevin Germanier. I plan to follow the path of an independent, sustainable and ethical brand. But I am interested in artistic direction at Dior. »
